Since our establishment, we have worked closely with local organizations such as SMUK Fest, the Festival Association, Skanderborg Museum, and the Canoe and Kayak Club to promote sustainable initiatives and strengthen our ties to the local community.
Our team is dedicated to improving our practices and finding new ways to make a positive difference both locally and globally. We are actively working to meet the UN's Sustainable Development Goals and take responsibility for challenges such as climate change and social sustainability.

Danhostel Skanderborg recognizes the urgent societal need to reduce climate impact. Therefore, we have already made decisions about the footprint we leave on our surroundings – whether it’s nature or people.
In 2022, the government set a goal that by 2030, at least 70% of all accommodation providers should be sustainability-certified. This is stated in the ‘National Strategy for Sustainable Growth in Danish Tourism.’ With our current initiatives like the Green Key certification, Organic Dining Label in bronze (30-60%), and CSRpeople label, we have already taken important steps toward a more conscious future.
From this fiscal year, public and large companies will be required to report on both scope 1, 2, and 3 in their CO2 accounts. Since a large portion of our guest share related to conference facilities falls under these categories, we will need to provide data in their CO2 accounting – and we are ready for it.
Formerly known as Skanderborg Vandrerhjem, we are now Danhostel Skanderborg Vandrerhjem – a family-owned and eco-labeled hostel with a focus on community and sustainability.

Using solar panels and air-to-air systems helps to reduce energy consumption and reduce CO2 emissions, which is important for preserving the environment. It is also positive to offer organic products in the kitchen, as it promotes health and sustainable food production.

We are happy to announce that Danhostel Skanderborg has achieved the coveted bronze organic dining label! This prestigious label symbolizes our dedication to sustainability and quality in our dining offerings.
The label requires that at least 30-60% of the ingredients we use are organic, and we are proud to have met and even exceeded this standard. We are now striving to achieve the Silver Organic Food Label, which requires 60-90% of our ingredients to be organic.
A hostel is generally cheaper than a hotel. We offer more budget-friendly accommodation, without compromising on quality.
Danhostel has shared facilities such as guest kitchens, common living rooms and dining areas. This gives our guests the opportunity to cook their own meals and save money on restaurant visits. It is also a great opportunity to meet other travelers from all over the world and make social connections.
